One area of worry for most Americans is the need for major medical health insurance. When the worst happens and a health insurance policy is needed, it usually means that everything else becomes unimportant, and the only thing that matters is the health of the insured, whether it is yourself, your child or you spouse. It is during these times that the coverage provided by the health insurance policy becomes extremely important, and the main fear becomes how will the health insurance policy perform rather than how much it costs. What holes in will appear in the policy that will leave the insured unprotected? Will the coverage benefits be exhausted? Will it cover this? Will it cover that?

In order to avoid these worries when the worst happens, here are 5 must-haves you should look for in a major medical health insurance policy. Instead of  making your decision to buy your major medical health insurance policy based on price, or cost, base it on how well it meets these 5 requirements:

1. A coverage limit high enough so that it will cover just about  any catastrophic type need that an insured may have. Look for limits in the 3-5 million dollar range, or more, to make sure you will have enough coverage no matter what happens.

2. A manageable maximum out-of-pocket annual limit that won;t exhaust your savings, or reserves, in case of a serious illness, major accident occurs.

3. No limits on coverages that cover expenses like daily room charges for hospital stays, or limits on surgical procedures.
4. Freedom to see medical providers (specialists) without a needing to obtain a referral.
5. Anywhere, anytime coverage no matter where you are

When shopping for a major medical health insurance plan, take the time to look at the above five requirements, and make sure your plan addresses these five issues to avoid having to worry about your health insurance coverage. By basing your buying decision on the quality of your plan, rather than price, you make sure that you will be covered should the unimaginable happen, and you end up facing a serious or life threatening medical emergency situation.

Have you taken a look at your existing major medical health insurance policy? Do you know what’s covered by your plan?
