Road service coverage is commonly offered by car insurance carriers as additional coverage in your car insurance policy, and can add a few dollars to your monthly car insurance bill. Is this extra coverage worth it? Well, it depends on your needs, but, and the number of claims that your car insurance policy will allow you before they start raising your rates or dropping you as a customer.
Road service coverage in your car insurance policy is often not a pain-free process. If you have a claim that falls under this type of coverage, the process can be a bit unwieldy to use. Under the terms of most car insurance policies, you must pay the cost initially. After you pay for the service, or services involved, you need to file a formal claim to get reimbursed for the costs of using the road service. This process might take up to two weeks, sometimes longer. Your benefits under this additional coverage in your car insurance policy might be limited to specific dollar amounts, like $25, $50, $75 or something like that. If you get too many of these, it might jeopardize your car insurance policy.
Because, these types of claims might be more common, it might be a good idea to get this type of coverage separately from your car insurance policy. The amounts involved aren’t usually all that great, and it might not be worth it to put your car insurance coverage in question just to get this type of coverage. You might be able to get a better option by going elsewhere for this type of coverage.
Organization like AAA and others may be better suited for this type of coverage instead of your car insurance carrier. These organizations specialize in providing this type of benefit to their members and are very good at it. The claims process may be paperless, and include other beneficial coverages that may come in handy for a small flat fee. This option may make better sense for you if handled outside of your car insurance policy.
